Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that his young son, Mateo, believes French forward Kylian Mbappé is a better footballer than him.
The Al Nassr star made the admission in a recent interview with Spanish broadcaster La Sexta.
Ronaldo, 39, scored twice over the weekend in the Saudi Pro League, helping his team to a convincing victory.
His brace propelled him to the top of the goal-scoring charts for the season.
Despite his impressive performance, Ronaldo confessed that it was not enough to sway his five-year-old son’s opinion.
Mateo, he said, remains a firm admirer of Real Madrid’s new star, Mbappé.
“Mateo, he really likes Mbappé,” Ronaldo shared during the interview.
“He sometimes tells me: ‘Hey dad, Mbappé is better than you.’”
Ronaldo, known for his competitive nature, responded playfully to his son’s claim.
“I tell him: ‘No, I am better than him, I have scored more goals,’” he added with a smile.
Mbappé, 25, has long acknowledged Ronaldo as one of his footballing idols.
The Frenchman’s admiration for the Portuguese legend dates back to his childhood.
Following his high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid last summer, Mbappé has begun to replicate some of Ronaldo’s achievements at the Bernabéu.
The France captain scored a hat-trick against Real Valladolid on Saturday, bringing his La Liga goal tally to 15.
He currently trails Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski in the race for the Pichichi Trophy.
Ronaldo, who played for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018, remains the club’s all-time top scorer with 450 goals.
His legacy at the Spanish giants is widely regarded as one of the greatest in football history.
Despite his son’s admiration for Mbappé, Ronaldo continues to excel in Saudi Arabia, proving that his goal-scoring prowess remains intact even at 39.
