Convicted kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, has told the Lagos State High Court that he is now a teacher at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after obtaining a diploma in economics.
Evans stated in his plea bargain application that he was willing to surrender all his properties, including 14 brand-new trucks, to compensate victims of his crimes.
“My Lord, I have changed. I am no longer a criminal,” Evans told the court, adding that he had completed a National Certificate in Education at Yewa College of Education.
His lawyer, Etudo Emefo, presented documents, including his diploma certificate and proof of his admission to the National Open University of Nigeria, where he is studying political science.
The Lagos State Government is currently reviewing Evans’ plea bargain application, which includes a proposal for the sale of his assets to compensate his victims.
Prosecutor Alaba Kuku confirmed that Evans and three co-defendants had expressed interest in a plea bargain and had submitted applications to the state government.
Evans also stated that he had undergone vocational training in welding and metal fabrication, acquiring new skills during his incarceration.
Justice Sherifat Sonaike adjourned the case until April 17, 2025, for a report on the plea bargain applications submitted by the defendants.
Two of Evans’ previous criminal cases in Lagos have already resulted in convictions, with one carrying a life sentence and the other a 14-year prison term.
His co-defendants, Joseph Emeka, Victor Aduba, and Linus Opara, also submitted similar plea bargain applications, except for one defendant whose application is still pending.
