Controversial Nigerian musician, Portable, has admitted that he originally created his Instagram account with the intention of engaging in internet fraud, commonly known as “Yahoo Yahoo”.
The singer made this revelation while speaking with popular content creator, Egungun of Lagos, during a casual conversation in a car.
The discussion focused on the name “Elizabeth Joyce” which appears on Portable’s Instagram profile.
When asked about the unusual name, Portable explained the account’s origin.
“To be honest with you, I created an Instagram account when I wanted to learn Yahoo Yahoo,” he said.
He added that his plans to pursue internet fraud never materialised, and he eventually changed the account’s details.
“That was why I initially opened the account, but it didn’t work out. I later went back to edit the account and removed the foreigner’s picture from it when I heard that people were looking for me online because I had become successful,” Portable explained.
Portable’s rise to fame began in December 2021 after the release of his hit single “Zazoo Zeh”, which featured Nigerian rapper Olamide and dancer Poco Lee.
Since then, he has remained in the spotlight for both his music and his often controversial behaviour.
Despite his popularity, Portable has faced numerous legal and social controversies.
In 2023, he was arrested for alleged assault, and his public outbursts have often kept him in the headlines.
When asked if he had any regrets about his past intentions, Portable stated that his life took a different turn with his music career.
“Na working account,” he said, indicating that the Instagram account is now used for legitimate purposes.
The musician’s admission has sparked reactions across social media, with many expressing concern over his candour and the implications of his statements.
As of now, the Nigerian police have not commented on Portable’s remarks regarding his initial involvement with internet fraud.
Portable remains one of the most talked-about figures in Nigeria’s music industry, known for his unique sound and unpredictable personality.
