The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, Peter Dike, for allegedly stabbing his wife to death during an argument at their home in the Oke-Ira, Ilogbo Eremi Community, Morogbo.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, and police officers from the Morogbo Division were alerted shortly afterward.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating that detectives acted swiftly upon receiving the report.
“The case is confirmed. A team of detectives on surveillance patrol in the area received information and moved in swiftly,” Hundeyin said.
According to Hundeyin, officers recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife from the suspect, who later confessed to the crime during interrogation.
“The suspect was taken into custody, and the corpse was deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Badagry,” he added.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
The incident adds to concerns over domestic violence in Nigeria, with reports indicating a rise in such cases.
In October 2024, a similar case was reported in Ikorodu, where a man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death during an argument.
A 2024 report by the DOHS Cares Foundation recorded at least 133 cases of suspected gender-related killings in Nigeria between January and December.
The foundation, a non-governmental organisation, tracks cases of femicide and advocates against gender-based violence.
Authorities have urged residents to report domestic violence cases early to prevent further tragedies.
