The National President of Al-Mushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (AITA), Ambassador Aminu Majidadi, has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of 16 Northern travellers in Uromi, Edo State, describing the act as an inhumane, unjustifiable attack on innocent Nigerians.
In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, Amb. Majidadi joined other concerned stakeholders, in calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killings.
“This heinous act is a threat to our collective peace and unity as a nation. The cold-blooded murder of innocent citizens travelling through Edo State must not be swept under the carpet. Justice must be served to reassure Nigerians that criminality has no refuge anywhere in our country,” Majidadi stated.
While commending stakeholders for efforts to maintain peace, Amb. Majidadi emphasized that national unity can only be sustained when justice is blind to ethnic, religious, or political affiliations.
“AITA stands in solidarity with all well-meaning Nigerians who are calling for justice. We appreciate the prompt condemnation from other well meaning Nigerians and align with the demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice through a thorough and unbiased investigation.”
The AITA President further stressed that Nigeria’s security architecture must rise to the occasion by launching a full-scale investigation into the incident and ensure that those behind the massacre are apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
He also called on the Federal Government to treat the case with urgency, warning that failure to do so would deepen the mistrust already threatening national cohesion.
Majidadi condoled with the families of the victims and urged Nigerians, particularly in the Northern region, to remain calm and law-abiding while the wheels of justice are set in motion.
“The lives lost in Uromi must not be reduced to a mere statistic. These were citizens who deserved protection, not violence. The government must prove that no Nigerian is above the law, and no Nigerian life is worthless,” he concluded.
Amb. Majidadi reaffirmed AITA’s commitment to promoting transparency, equity, and justice across the country, urging all communities to shun incitement and work together for a united Nigeria.
