Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has claimed that there are plans to arrest and detain him, stating that he has received warnings about an alleged plot to force him into exile.

El-Rufai made these allegations in a post on X on Tuesday, stating that he had no intention of fleeing the country despite the threats.

He was responding to a message from one of his supporters, Imran Wakili, who raised concerns about the alleged plot against him.

According to El-Rufai, some individuals are attempting to intimidate him through his friends, family, and political associates.

“They have sent similar messages of intimidation and threats through many of my friends, family, and political associates because they want me to go on self-imposed exile,” El-Rufai stated.

The former governor, who is currently in Egypt, reaffirmed his commitment to returning to Nigeria before February 20.

“I will spend more time in Nigeria than ever before,” he wrote, dismissing any plans to go into exile.

El-Rufai recalled past incidents where he was detained for expressing his political views, stating that such actions were not new in human history.

“I have been arrested and detained thrice in the past for expressing my views about previous governments,” he noted.

He further asserted that political struggles and detentions were temporary, adding that death is inevitable and determined by divine will.

“For the attention of the pathetic characters that don’t sleep well whenever I am in Nigeria, take notice that I intend to return in time for the launch of Pres IBB’s memoirs, in sha Allah, scheduled for 20th February,” he said.

El-Rufai insisted that he was undeterred by any threats against him, maintaining his reliance on divine protection.

“We depend on no one but Allah. We fear no mortal but Almighty Allah. We always hope for the best but plan for the worst,” he stated.

His comments come amid tensions between him and supporters of President Bola Tinubu, as well as members of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

El-Rufai had recently criticised the APC, claiming the party lacked internal democracy, citing the absence of key party meetings over the past two years.
