Anambra-based cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has announced his intention to contest Nigeria’s presidency in the 2027 general elections.

The flamboyant preacher made the declaration in a viral video of his sermon, which has since sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms.

According to Odumeje, Nigeria needs youthful, digital-minded leaders who can usher in modern development and progress, rather than older politicians who have led the country in the past.

“Both past and present leaders have failed to move Nigeria forward due to their age and lack of vision,” Odumeje said in the video.

“The country needs a vibrant, resilient, and forward-thinking leader like me to usher in real progress.”

Although the cleric did not disclose the political party under which he intends to run, his supporters have already begun expressing excitement about his announcement.

“We need a young leader in this country, and I think I am coming out. We need a digital leader, not old cargoes. Am I sure you hear me? I think I will come out; I will come out for president.”

Addressing his congregation during the sermon, Odumeje asked if they were prepared for his presidential ambition and promised to introduce a digitally driven and modern way of life for Nigerians.

“Are you ready for me? Odumeje for president? Are you ready for me? Because I know what you need. I know what you want. I want to construct a main road called Citadel for you. I want to give you a modern life, a digital life.”

The cleric, known for his energetic preaching style and dramatic expressions, has gained popularity not only for his religious activities but also for his presence on social media platforms like TikTok.

This is not the first time Odumeje has made headlines.

Recently, he claimed his TikTok account was banned, and he has also released music collaborations, including a single featuring Nigerian artist Flavour.

While his presidential declaration has drawn mixed reactions, many Nigerians are curious to see how his political ambition unfolds ahead of the 2027 elections.

Some members of his congregation expressed support, while others called for clarity on his political agenda and the party he plans to join.

Political analysts have noted that Odumeje’s popularity among Nigerian youth could give him an advantage, particularly in mobilising digital-savvy voters.

As the 2027 elections approach, Odumeje’s announcement adds to the growing list of individuals expressing interest in the country’s top political position.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is yet to officially open the window for political declarations, but Odumeje’s early announcement has already set conversations in motion.
