The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of the shallow grave of Lagos State University, LASU, graduate Adedamola Ogunbode, following the arrest of the principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo.
Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, had been declared missing since 16 January 2025, amid reports of a mutilated body suspected to be his.
His disappearance sparked a widespread search and growing public concern.
The prime suspect, Ajisomo, was apprehended on Monday morning in the Alakuko area of Lagos State.
The arrest followed weeks of speculation that he had fled to the Benin Republic to evade capture.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect was found in possession of Ogunbode’s mobile phone and had been using it to access the victim’s bank account.
“The principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was arrested yesterday morning at the Alakuko area. He was the one who cleared the victim’s bank account through the victim’s mobile phone,” Hundeyin stated.
The arrest led police detectives to the burial site of the deceased, which was confirmed not to be on the premises of the church connected to the case, despite social media speculation.
“The shallow grave is not around the church premises, but it is there in the community,” Hundeyin clarified.
“The church has been sealed following intelligence reports that some people planned to burn it out of vengeance, and we do not want that to happen.”
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had earlier directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case after the students’ union threatened to organise a statewide protest.
Three other suspects were arrested before Ajisomo’s capture, including a pastor, Whepetoji Sunday, who allegedly received ₦70,000 from Ogunbode’s account. A church member, Sheriff Adebayo, was also detained for reportedly collecting ₦300,000 from the same account.
The prime suspect’s mother, Omolara Ajisomo, was arrested for allegedly assisting her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa, in fleeing after each reportedly received ₦300,000 from the victim’s account.
