Thirty Passengers Burnt To Death In Ondo Road Accident
Thirty passengers lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred on Saturday in the Odigbo local government council area of Ondo State.

The crash happened at the Onipetesi axis along the Ore-Lagos Expressway when two commercial buses collided head-on and burst into flames.

According to eyewitnesses, 32 passengers were involved in the crash, with 28 burnt beyond recognition.

Two survivors, who sustained severe injuries, succumbed before reaching the hospital.

Two other passengers survived the incident and are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Officials attributed the accident to excessive speeding by both drivers, which led to the fatal collision.

Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the incident and stated that a preliminary investigation revealed one of the vehicles was driving against traffic.

“The initial findings indicate that one of the drivers was travelling on the wrong lane, which resulted in the collision,” Ibitoye said.

He urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, exercise caution, and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained to prevent similar tragedies.

Ibitoye also advised passengers to hold drivers accountable for reckless behaviour, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility.

Emergency responders have since cleared the accident scene, while authorities work to identify the victims and notify their families.
