Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has sworn in a newly constituted State Executive Council alongside key top government officials, expanding the state’s executive ministries from 18 to 23 to accelerate service delivery in the final stretch of his administration.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the International Conference Centre in Gombe, saw 23 Commissioners, 13 Special Advisers, one Permanent Secretary, and the newly appointed Head of Civil Service, Mu’azu Shehu, officially take their oaths of office.
Supporters from across the state’s 11 local government areas and 13 local council development areas gathered at the venue to witness the inauguration.
Federal Priorities, Ministry Expansion
As part of the structural reforms, Governor Yahaya introduced new portfolios, including the
Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and the Ministry of Livestock Development.
The creation of the livestock development ministry, he said, directly aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to boost livestock productivity, expand value chains, enhance food security, and consolidate Gombe’s position as a leading livestock producer.
Governor Yahaya noted that the selection of cabinet members was drawn from across all LGAs and LCDAs based on competence, experience, and diversity to ensure inclusive governance.
No Room For Delay
With roughly 10 months remaining in his second and final tenure, Yahaya charged the appointees to hit the ground running, warning against corruption, indiscipline, and divisive politics.
“We are approaching the twilight of our administration. Your achievements must become our greatest campaign tools because this government speaks through its work and verifiable performance. You have less than one year to make your mark,” he stated.
He reminded the officials that public office remains a sacred trust and urged them to maintain fiscal discipline, transparency, and the fear of God.
Highlighting the direction for the civil service, the newly sworn-in Head of Civil Service, Shehu, announced plans to transition Gombe’s public service into a fully digitised, paperless framework to enhance administrative efficiency.
Speaking on behalf of the cabinet, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Zubairu Umar, alongside Commissioner for Information Moses Bolda and Commissioner for Housing Mohammed Fawu, reaffirmed their commitment to delivering innovative solutions and executing priority infrastructure projects ahead of May 29, 2027.
