The National President of the Al-Mushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (AITA), Ambassador Aminu Majidadi, has called upon African leaders, particularly in Nigeria, to draw inspiration from the recent U.S. presidential election, in which Donald Trump emerged victorious.
Majidadi emphasized that the peaceful and transparent nature of the election serves as a vital example of democratic principles in action.
Majidadi praised the American system for its ability to conduct an election without violence, destruction, or divisive sentiment, pointing out that the U.S. election was won on merit, with citizens able to cast their votes freely and fairly. “The recent American election reflects democracy at its finest,” Majidadi stated, adding that “it exemplifies a commitment to transparency, respect for the people’s voice, and stability in governance.”
According to Majidadi, the African political landscape, and Nigeria in particular, stands to benefit significantly from adopting similar democratic practices.
“In our context, elections often become entangled in sentiment and personal loyalties, leading to violence and public unrest. But true democracy thrives on the free exchange of ideas and peaceful competition,” he noted.
Majidadi also emphasized the need for African leaders and stakeholders to strengthen democratic institutions to ensure elections reflect the will of the people, devoid of intimidation and conflict. He encouraged Nigerian leaders and citizens alike to work toward building a political culture that prioritizes integrity, stability, and the collective interest.
The ambassador stressed that AITA under his leadership, remains committed to promoting democratic values, urging African societies to take meaningful steps toward governance that empowers and respects the voice of the people.
