Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has reconciled with his father, Fatai Odunsi, following a public dispute over financial neglect, with the artiste promising to provide him with a house and medical support.
Odunsi, also known as Malo, had earlier accused Asake of abandoning him despite his health struggles and financial difficulties, prompting widespread reactions from the public.
In a viral video on Thursday, Odunsi appealed to Nigerians to help him reach his son, claiming he had not seen him since 2022 and had struggled to pay for his medical treatment after suffering a stroke.
Following the public outcry, Odunsi confirmed on Sunday in an interview with digital creator Aki Abolade (Mrlilgaga) that Asake had agreed to buy him a house and take care of his needs.
“He (Asake) has said they should look for a house that he will buy for me, and they have been searching since Saturday,” Odunsi said in Yoruba, expressing gratitude to his son.
The reconciliation came after social media backlash against the singer, with residents of Isale Eko and online users criticising him for allegedly neglecting his ailing father.
However, Asake addressed the controversy in a TikTok video, stating in Yoruba: “You can’t please everyone, you can’t please the world. But whatever you do, do it for God.”
In the same video, he suggested that he had been financially supporting his father but was now being pressured. “My own father wants to cajole me, and I have sent so much money to him,” Asake said.
Odunsi also admitted that his frustration stemmed from not seeing his son for a long time rather than financial neglect, adding that the issue had been resolved.
“I was angry because I hadn’t seen him in a long time. His mother ought to ask him, ‘When was the last time you saw your father?’ But we have settled everything now,” Odunsi said.
Meanwhile, the controversy has taken another dimension as a woman, Adijat, has claimed to have an 11-year-old daughter, Zeenat, for Asake, accusing him of neglect.
Adijat stated that she had supported Asake before his fame but was blocked by him on social media after he gained success.
“I have an 11-year-old daughter for Asake. Before he became famous, I supported him financially when he was at the University of Ife. But after he got famous, he blocked me when I tried to reach him,” she said during a TikTok live session.
She further alleged that Asake only sent her ₦1 million since his rise to stardom but had not actively taken responsibility for their daughter.
Amid these allegations, Odunsi confirmed that Asake had agreed to take care of Zeenat and acknowledged her as his child.
“He (Asake) has said he will take care of her. He has never denied his child,” Odunsi said.
The family drama has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some praising Asake for resolving the dispute with his father while others urged him to take responsibility for his alleged daughter.
Supporters of Asake have defended him, arguing that celebrities often face financial demands from extended family members.
TikTok users reacted to the reconciliation, with @Arinola2505 commenting, “Asake, God will bless you. Your children will also pamper you.”
@tactec002 posted, “Wow! Asake, I am very proud of you. You are the true son of your father.”
Asake, known for his hit songs and unique musical style, has not yet publicly addressed the paternity claims.
