James Tarkowski’s late equaliser saw Everton hold Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
The result keeps Liverpool seven points clear of Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
The match began with high intensity as both teams aimed for a crucial result. Everton, battling to avoid relegation, took the lead in the first half when Beto capitalised on a quickly taken free-kick to slot the ball past Alisson Becker.
Liverpool responded swiftly, restoring parity just four minutes later. Alexis MacAllister found space in the box and directed a precise header beyond Jordan Pickford, making it 1-1 before half-time.
The second half saw Liverpool dominate possession, and their efforts paid off when Mohamed Salah fired home a clinical finish to put the visitors ahead.
The Egyptian forward’s goal appeared to have secured all three points for the Reds.
Everton, however, refused to give in and pressed forward in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence was rewarded in the dying moments of the game when Tarkowski smashed a loose ball into the net, sending Goodison Park into celebration.
Speaking after the match, Everton manager Sean Dyche praised his team’s determination.
“We showed great spirit and character. The boys never gave up, and we deserved something from the game,” he said.
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp expressed frustration at conceding late but remained focused on the title race. “It’s disappointing to drop points, but we move forward.
There are still many games to play,” he stated.
The draw takes Liverpool to 57 points, extending their lead over Arsenal, who remain on 50 points. Nottingham Forest, in third place, trail by 10 points.
For Everton, the result provides a much-needed boost in their relegation fight.
They now sit 10 points clear of the drop zone with hopes of securing Premier League survival.
Liverpool will now shift their focus to their next fixture as they continue their push for the league title, while Everton aim to build on this result in their battle to stay up.
