Let us discuss about “Transparency and Accountability”, the demerits and the merits, the effects and impacts on socioeconomic infrastructures of Nigeria and what you and I could do to salvage our nation from everything and every Tom, Dick, and Harry that lack “Transparency and Accountability”, as they hold us with their killer hugs, they are suffocating us and Nigeria!
There comes a moment in the life of every society when silence becomes complicity and convenience becomes a mask for corruption, that moment is not distant from us as a matter of fact, it is here, now, in our institutions, our workplaces, our homes, even in the digital spaces and where decisions are made but not always seen.
Transparency is not a luxury of good governance, it is its very foundation, it is the light that exposes what is hidden, not to shame, but to correct. It is the assurance that public resources, public trust, and public power are not traded in secrecy or used as private currency by those entrusted with them.
Yet transparency alone is not enough.
Accountability gives transparency its strength, without accountability, transparency becomes mere visibility without consequence. It is accountability that ensures that when rules are broken, when funds are mismanaged or when trust is betrayed, there is a response that is fair, firm, and consistent. Accountability should not be selective, not symbolic, but real in all our endeavors.
We must understand that accountability is not punishment, it is responsibility fulfilled and it is the discipline of answering for one’s actions and in any system that claims to serve the people and no one should be above that responsibility, I mean no one including the number one citizens of our dear nation, his Excellency President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, GCFR
Presently, especially in this digital age, information travels fast, but truth must travel faster. Online publication has become one of the most powerful tools for exposing wrongdoing and demanding reform. But with that power comes responsibility, the responsibility to be accurate, fair, and constructive, not reckless or destructive.
We are not calling for chaos in the name of exposure, we are calling for order in the name of justice. We are calling for systems where audits are not feared, where questions are not punished and where integrity is not optional.
A society that embraces transparency is a society that chooses progress over comfort, a society that enforces accountability is one that chooses dignity over decay and a society that combines both is one that builds trust between the governed and those who govern.
Let me make it clear for you my esteemed followers to know and take not that public office is a public trust, not a private inheritance, public funds are a national responsibility not personal entitlement and public service must always mean service, not self-enrichment.
