In his acceptance speech delivered by the deputy governor, Yusuf described the award as a recognition of the collective efforts of the Kano State Government and the people of the state.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has been honoured with the BusinessDay 2026 Governor of the Year Award for his administration’s efforts in governance, economic development and improving the state’s investment readiness.

The award was presented during the BusinessDay 14th Annual CEO Forum held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, where Kano State was also recognised as Nigeria’s comparative and investment-readiness state.

Governor Yusuf was represented at the event by his deputy, who received the award on his behalf. The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and leaders from the private sector.

Presenting the award, BusinessDay Publisher and Chief Executive Officer, Frank Aigbogun, said Kano was recognised under the States Competitiveness and Investment Readiness Awards (SCIRA) for its performance in positioning the state for economic growth.

In his acceptance speech delivered by the deputy governor, Yusuf described the award as a recognition of the collective efforts of the Kano State Government and the people of the state.

“This recognition is a testament to the commitment of our administration towards people-centred governance and the implementation of reforms that have repositioned Kano for sustainable growth,” Yusuf said.

The governor said the award reflects the impact of government investments in key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, commerce, industrial development and social welfare.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Kano’s position as a commercial hub in Northern Nigeria through policies aimed at attracting investment, supporting small and medium enterprises, modernising markets, improving agricultural value chains and creating jobs for young people.

“We remain committed to policies that promote investment, support businesses, enhance productivity and create opportunities for the people of Kano State,” the governor said.

Yusuf dedicated the award to residents of Kano, members of the State Executive Council, the legislature, judiciary, traditional and religious leaders, civil servants; development partners, and the private sector.

He added that the recognition would encourage his administration to continue promoting transparency, accountability and inclusive governance.

The BusinessDay Governor of the Year Award is part of the newspaper’s annual recognition of public leaders and institutions contributing to economic growth and development in Nigeria.
